Callaway County Ambulance District Station

WSKF Architects’ initial task was to assess Callaway County Ambulance District’s (CCAD) station and make recommendations for modernizing. The facility was undersized for current needs and posed a number of functional challenges. A plan for renovation and expansion followed. As construction was under way, lightning struck the facility and extensive fire damage resulted in the structure being demolished. WSKF designed a new two-level facility totaling more than 19,000 square feet that provided ample space and the operational functionality sought by CCAD. The upper level includes six bays for EMS vehicles and equipment, bunk space for eight, kitchen, dayroom, medical supplies storage and administrative/support space. The lower level provides a fitness space, training room for 60 and a board room that is structurally hardened to serve as a storm shelter. The design addresses the operational issues that prompted the facility need – apparatus space and maneuverability, dedicated access to classroom training without disrupting station operations, access control and facility security, and adequate offices.
