WSKF Architects was commissioned in 2012 to complete a needs assessment and space needs study for this community with a population of 8,300. The existing facility, built around 1950, had grown outdated, undersized and in deteriorating condition. The study included an existing facility review, determination of how the facility complies with current and emerging facility needs for all three major uses and offering alternative planning scenarios to address facility needs. WSKF worked closely with City and Department leaders to balance their facility needs and budget. The resulting headquarters and station provides administrative space, bunkrooms, dayroom, kitchen and dining space. The working side of the fire station includes four drive-through bays, gear storage and other support space. To maximize the City’s budget, WSKF adapted a pre-engineered building system that provides the needed volume of space and ability to tailor the system and design to meet the City’s requirements. The facility meets modern fire service standards and provides a durable and cost-effective solution to the City’s station needs.
