LOCATION:

Kansas City, Mo.

SIZE:

24,000 Sq. Ft.

Located near a Native American Indian archaeological site, this City of Kansas City community center design is influenced by lean-to structures of nomadic people as well as the colors and patterns seen in early Indian weavings. Durable earth tone materials not only reflect the resources available to early Indians, but also allow the center to operate with low maintenance and utility costs. The assemblage of many small, “individual” building forms makes the large complex less imposing on the surrounding environment. Features include an ice rink, weight room, community meeting rooms, a leisure swimming pool, locker rooms and a concession stand.
