LOCATION:

Kansas City, Mo.

SIZE:

15,000 Sq. Ft.

The program includes a sanctuary with seating for 350 with the ability to use the foyer as overflow seating for 100 by opening a sliding glass wall. Structure was included for a future balcony to seat an additional 175 people. Other uses include office, nursery, classroom, choir practice, a boardroom and a covered drop off at the entry. As with many churches, the vision and needs for the church and its congregation are great but the funds are limited. This 15,000 square foot project was accomplished by maximizing every system in the building and stretching them to the limit. Each component was analyzed to function on multiple levels. The process of choosing materials and systems was weighted equally between function, durability, cost, and aesthetics. Day-lighting, high efficiency HVAC, and low maintenance materials and systems were important features to reduce costs of maintaining the facility. The project achieved the congregation’s goals of a church that is modern and forward looking with timeless forms and clean lines creating a place of worship that inspires and proclaims God’s glory. The project has won several awards, most recently a Merit Award from the Association of Licensed Architects.
