The redevelopment of three square blocks in North Kansas City, Missouri replaces deteriorated garden apartments, and as part of a larger area redevelopment, revitalizes the pedestrian street life that had become non existent. Located two blocks from the city’s central business district, the Cityview Flats, Lofts and Suites situates the units close to the street and utilizes street parking to reinforce a pedestrian scale. This encourages street life interaction between its tenants creating a connection to the existing community. Buildings screen larger parking areas minimizing their impact and placing the focus of activity back to the street. This screening also creates private courtyards for the residents’ use. Pockets of green space provide opportunities for outdoor grilling or casual meeting places. The City Club, centrally located in the development, offers administrative space along with many amenities to the residents. A pool, workout center with showers, coffee bar, lounge/gameroom, and WiFi computer cafe make this the hub of the development. CityView was selected as a Kansas City Business Journal Capstone Award Honoree in 2008 and honored as a Development of Distinction by the Urban Land Institute Kansas City.
