This project had its beginnings in Children’s Mercy Hospital’s need to convert a former grocery store space into a clinic offering pediatric services. As part of a multi-phase project spanning several years WSKF designers added space as the clinic and demand for its services grew. The clinic offers weekday pediatric outpatient specialty clinics and evening and weekend urgent care. Now covering 38,000 square feet, the clinic serves a population base of more than 300,000 in Clay and Platte County and the surrounding area. The guiding principle was to ensure that all spaces — from the waiting room to exam rooms — meet all the functional needs of a pediatric clinic while also offering a comforting environment for children. The architectural design wonderfully integrates the art of Don “Scribe” Ross, an in-house artist at Children’s Mercy.
