The Saint Joseph House is a new residence located on the grounds of the Little Brothers of the Lamb Monastery. Initially serving as a retirement home for the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, the home is designed with a long-term vision in mind—it will be converted to a guest house for Monastery visitors once the Archbishop no longer resides there.

The goal of the design is to extend the Monastery’s language using the same material palette and detailing to achieve harmony with its surroundings. The floor plate matches that of the adjacent neighborhood homes. The design incorporates a lower eave to intentionally make the home feel more humble, reflecting the Monastery’s modest and simple approach.

The 1,870 SF one-bedroom house includes a private chapel with an office, along with living, dining, kitchen, laundry, and a single-car garage. The home’s entry is oriented toward the Monastery’s front yard. The space between the house and monastery creates a framed view of the hand-painted grotto at the rear of the property.
