Sioux Falls/Metro 911 Dispatch Center

This new 20,900-sq-ft dispatch facility is housed in the larger administration and classroom building that is part of the Sioux Falls Public Safety Training Complex. The facility initially provides for 20 dispatchers and support functions with total capacity for 32 dispatchers.

The Metro 911 facility enhances emergency communications in Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County while allowing the current center to become a back-up center. Metro Communications’ annual volume totals more than 328,000 calls. The design provides a large dispatch center, training space, server room, fitness room, a media room for briefing events, locker room, conference room and sizable administrative and support services space.

The facility provides dispatch services for the City of Sioux Falls and the rest of the county. It meets the International Code Council 500 standard for storm resistance. This entails the overall structural design, anchoring of the roof, windows, doors and other building openings. The PSAP is essentially a hardened building within the classroom building.

More broadly, the fire and police training elements include a burn tower, a wide array of tactical training elements, two EVOC driving course areas, a shooting range and tactical village with structures designed to simulate common emergency scenarios faced by first responders in Sioux Falls.
