For 35 years, Illusions Unlimited has showcased the creativity of their designers and craftspeople across a range of media through memorable creations for the Kansas City Zoo, Crown Center and other institutions. When Illusions took over a large North Kansas City 1930s-era warehouse for their studio, workshop and offices, they turned to WSKF Architects for help with tailoring the space to their needs and brand. WSKF immediately saw an opportunity to meld Illusions’ creativity with the building’s Art Deco style. The resulting space provides Illusions with studio space visible through a new glass wall and a large collaboration and event space visible from Burlington Avenue. New windows open up the front of the building and create an ever-changing play of light and shadow that complements the artistic pursuits inside. The finished space is a perfect creative environment for the artistry and next chapter of Illusions.
