WSKF Staff Tour New Lee’s Summit Animal Control Facility
The WSKF staff toured the recently completed Lee’s Summit Animal Control facility. WSKF provided design services for the new 10,600 sq. ft. facility, which features habitat, adoption, community and staff space.

CityView at Northgate a 2008 Capstone Honoree
The CityView at Northgate Flats, Lofts and Suites in North Kansas City was recently honored at the 2008 Capstone Awards. The housing project, which was designed by WSKF Architects, was one of three projects that were honored in the muli-family housing category in the award ceremony put on by the Kansas City Business Journal. Mike Rainen, the developer of the project, and John Freshnock, accepted the award on behalf of the project.

WSKF Selected for New Projects
WSKF Architects, Inc. was recently selected for a variety of new projects. WSKF was selected to design two new fire stations, including the Lee’s Summit Fire Station No. 2, and Lenexa Fire Station No. 5. Design work for both projects has just begun. WSKF was also recently selected to design an addition to the First United Methodist Church of Kearney and has been providing design services for security updates for the Kansas City Kansas Community College.

WSKF Wins Kansas American Concrete Institute Award
WSKF was awarded a Kansas American Concrete Institute Award for our design work on the Saint Andrew Christian Church in Olathe, Kansas. The project won in the $6 million and under category.

2008 Marks the 5th Anniversary of WSKF Architects
2008 marks five years since the four principals, Homer Williams, Mark Spurgeon, Rick Kuhl and John Freshnock, formed Williams Spurgeon Kuhl and Freshnock Architects, Inc. Since 2003, WSKF has worked on a variety of projects, including multiple fire stations, school projects, city halls and numerous housing projects. WSKF will mark the anniversary with a reception and open house later this year.

WSKF Principal Spending Year Teaching at University of Hawaii School of Architecture
Homer Williams, the founding principal of WSKF Architects, is taking a year away from the firm to teach and study at the University of Hawaii School of Architecture. He is a Doctoral student there and also a senior instructor. He is working on his thesis, which is over bank and financial institution design.

Parkville City Hall Open House and Ribbon Cutting
The recently completed Parkville City Hall was opened up to the public for an open house and ribbon cutting sponsored by the Parkville Chamber of Commerce on July 7. WSKF staff provided guided tours to members of the community. The city hall is 23,865 sq. ft. and cost $3.3 million dollars.

Parkville Mayor Kathy Dusenberry, along with city staff and aldermen, cut the ribbon to officially open the new City Hall, which was designed by WSKF Architects.

3WSKF Hosts First Annual Client Appreciation Night
WSKF held the first ever Client Appreciation Night on June 21. Clients, friends and consultants of our firm enjoyed food and drinks and were able to tour the WSKF offices and meet the members of the staff.

WSKF held a Client Appreciation Night to thank clients and friends of the firm for their business and influence in the firm’s success.

Lee’s Summit Fire Station Office
The entire office staff of WSKF recently toured the Lee’s Summit Fire Station No. 7 and training tower, which was completed in March. WSKF designed the station and though a lot of the staff saw the building in progress, the firm believes that it is important to celebrate the success of a completed project with everyone.

WSKF “Goes Green

Members of the WSKF staff were recently certified as LEED Accredited Professionals by the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. John E. Freshnock and Rick Kuhl, Principals of WSKF, and Dalyn Huffman, intern architect, Jason Zimmerman, and Dustin Watkins are now LEED accredited.

LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes individuals with detailed knowledge of LEED project certification requirements and processes and a command of integrated design principles. LEED accreditation is awarded to building industry practitioners who successfully demonstrate these proficiencies on a comprehensive exam. By utilizing the LEED program, the U.S. Green Building Council encourages the design and construction of healthier, more productive and more efficient places to live and work.

Lee’s Summit Fire Station # 7 Dedicated
The Lee’s Summit Fire Station # 7, designed by WSKF, was dedicated on March 16th. The station is 19,000 sq. ft. and includes a fire-training tower.
